Description

Middleville, N.Y. Burleigh Lithographing Establishment.

Reproduction bird's-eye view map of Middleville, New York, drawn and published by Lucien R. Burleigh around 1890. Middleville is a village in Herkimer County on the banks of the West Canada Creek in New York State. It was settled in the early 1800's and almost immediately became a manufacturing center for wool, cotton, flax and iron products. In 1880, the railroad reached Middleville, enabling greater growth and prosperity. This map shows the new iron bridge that was built in 1888 replacing the old wooden bridge that had needed constant rebuilding. The village of Middleville was incorporated in 1890 just north of the village of Herkimer.

This panoramic map from the 1890's shows railroad route, buildings and new metal bridge.
