The city of Olympia, Washington was settled in the early 1840's on the banks of
the Puget Sound. After going through many name changes, the inhabitants
settled on the name Olympia in 1851. In 1853, it became the capital of
Washington Territory, and retained the status when Washington entered the Union.
This beautiful map provides a look at the early days of the city.
