This bird’s-eye view print of Dover, New Hampshire was drawn and published by Albert Ruger, D. Bremner & Co. Lith. in 1877. Dover was settled in the early 1600's in New Hampshire’s coastal region. It was named county seat of Strafford County when the county was organized in 1771.
Dover became a manufacturing center in the 1800's with the areas fast moving waterways being used as a power source. The Cocheco Manufacturing Company was a major producer of cotton goods. The company built large brick mill buildings in downtown Dover near the falls of the Cochecho River that were linked by railroad.
The community of Dover was served by the Boston & Maine, and Dover & Portsmouth railroads.
