Historic Map
- Jacksonville, OR - 1883
Bird's eye view of Jacksonville and the
Rogue River Valley, Oregon 1883. Fred A. Walpole, del. Beck & Pauli,
lithographers.
The city of Jacksonville was founded in 1851,
following the discovery of gold in the area. The city was the financial
capital of Oregon, until it was passed over by the Oregon & Washington Railway.
This slowed the economy down considerably, though fortunately many of the
buildings in the town had been preserved due to the decrease in population.
This resulted in the Historic District of Jacksonville, and was placed on the
National Register of Historic Places in 1966 - which covers the entire city
limits. This beautiful map provides a look at the beginnings of the city. Complete reference list below.

state of repair of the original conserved document. Stains and imperfections
reflected in the original map at the time it was collected for conservation are

original. Some major imperfections, such as dark fold lines have been removed
when possible. Maps are printed as ordered and are not returnable unless
