Fine reproduction of a panoramic map of
Frederick, South Dakota in 1883. A "booster" description of the new
town is provided in the lower margin as follows:
"Was founded in
the spring of 1882 and is the finest town site in Dakota, and, during the
first year of its existence, rapidly developed in size and prominence, now
numbering about 700 population and many solid business enterprises.
Among its many improvements it has every facility for commercial business in
the way of railroads, telegraph, banking, express, mail, etc., is situated
on the Maple River and on the H. & D. Division of the C, M. & St. P. R. R.,
and soon to be connected with the Northwestern by the O., F. & B. R. R. from
Ordway to Bismark, which is to be completed to Frederick's at an early day.
Frederick is in the center of the best agricultural part of the Jim River
Valley, with pure water, fine churches and schools, excellent society, and
destined to become a prosperous commercial city. For information as to
prices of lots, etc., address C.F. Campau, Frederic, D. T."
