Birds eye view of Egg Harbor City, N.J. Herline & Hensel, lith. This reproduction aero-view map of Egg Harbor City, New Jersey was published by Hughes & Cinquin in 1924. Egg Harbor City was founded in 1854 when the Camden & Atlantic railroad was built to serve New Jersey's coastal communities. Several towns like Egg Harbor City emerged along the railway's route towards Atlantic City at that time. It became a refuge for German victims of the "Knownothingism" movement that was sweeping the nation. Egg Harbor City was first promoted specifically to German-Americans, who remained the bulk of its population until about twenty years before this map's publication. Many German names are still prevalent among the prominent business people listed on this map from 1924.
The view of Egg Harbor City shows buildings, railroad routes, railroad table, town seal and clearly labeled streets. It features inset illustrations of the following:
Fire Department. Grammar School. Sindel, Shiff & Co., Inc. Egg Harbor Commercial Bank. Aurora Hotel, Fred Lott, Prop. Goller Hardware & Supply Co. Hammonton Shoe Co. Egg Harbor City, 1855.
Features numbered references to the following locations:
