This bird’s-eye view print of Saint Cloud, Minnesota was drawn by Albert Ruger and published by Merchant’s Lithographing Co. in 1869. Saint Cloud was established along the Mississippi River in the 1850's. The region’s rich soil provided good farming of grains, grasses and corn.
The raising of livestock was important to the area.
A Minnesota State Normal School began operations in 1869 in an old three-story hotel near the river. The institution is currently known as St. Cloud State University
The map includes labeled streets, buildings and railroad route. There are inset illustrations of the Union School and Court House.
