In the late 1800's the Allegheny Valley Railway established their railroad shops at Verona.
The town maintained an iron works, a tool works, steel casting works, and other manufacturers supportive of the railroad.
The borough of Oakmont, just to the north of Verona, was incorporated as a city in 1889.
The map from 1896 includes labeled streets, buildings, bridges, roundhouse and railroad routes.
