By Nathan H. Parker author of "Iowa As It Is" 1856. This colorful map lists the various railroads of Iowa and their connections. It indicates resources of coal, lead, iron and plaster. Land district boundaries are bordered in red.
The map shows rivers, towns, cities, county seats, and railroads, both completed and those under construction. It displays Iowa during its days of much railroad building and pioneer settlement.
One year after this map’s publishing Iowa’s capital was moved from Iowa City to the more central location of Des Moines.
