The battle of Gettysburg was one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, and was certainly a major turning point in the war for the North. General Robert E. Lee was in command of the Army of Northern Virginia, and General George Meade was in charge of the Army of the Potomac.

General Lee was attempting a second invasion of the North, having been repulsed during the Maryland Campaign. On July 1st, 1863 the Union and Confederate armies met in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and were involved in a series of battles over the course of three days, ending with a Union victory.
