The village of Hoosick Falls was incorporated in 1827 near the falls of the Hoosic River in Rensselaer County. Hoosick Falls became a center for area farmers and manufacturers to transport their goods by train to New York or abroad. The community produced slate, brick, glass, paper and pulp. At the time of this map's publishing, the Walter A. Wood Mowing and Reaping Co., located next to the falls on 85 acres, had become the largest farm machinery maker in the world.
