Vue de San-Francisco = Vista de San-Francisco / dessin et lithog. par Deroy. (View of San Francisco Vista = San Francisco / designed and lithog. by Deroy.)
The city of San Francisco was incorporated in 1850, and soon after, grew to become one of the most famous cities in the US.
The California Gold Rush of 1848 saw San Francisco's population increase from 1,000 to 25,000 over the course of one year. In 1869 the Pacific Railroad reached San Francisco. The railroad inspired the development of the Port of San Francisco. New port activities led the Bay Area to become a notable world trade center. Several neighborhoods were created during the late 1800's to accommodate new arrivals including the Mission District, Haight-Ashbury, Eureka Valley, and the Western Addition.
This colorful lithograph portraying San Francisco was published in 1860 by Isador Laurent Deroy.
