This bird’s-eye view print of Springfield, Massachusetts was drawn and published by O. H. Bailey & Co. in 1875. Springfield was settled in the 1600s on the banks of the Connecticut River. Its history, as an educational and manufacturing center, is evident by the number of modern manufactures pictured here.
In the 1800s, Springfield was at the forefront of agricultural and horticultural methods. It also held important railroad shops and yards.
