This bird’s-eye view print of Taunton, Massachusetts was drawn and published by O. H. Bailey & Co. in 1875. Taunton was settled in the 1600s along the Taunton River. Taunton was an early manufacturing center for products made of iron. In the 1800s, Taunton was an important railroad junction town with a number of industrial interests.

The Mason Machine Works was established at Taunton by William Mason in the 1840s. The company was a large employer of the community in the manufacture of textile mill machinery and railroad locomotives.

The hand-colored illustration includes labeled roads, buildings, bridges, waterways and railroad routes. There are detailed illustrations of the following:
