Description

The Health and Pleasure Resorts of New York and New England, the best way to reach them via America's Greatest Railroad.

In the 1890's many railroads turned towards the transportation involved in connecting vacationers with the regions' many popular spas, springs and resorts. Pristine get-away destinations were ever more accessable due to the railroads.

Noted on this map:

"Operating the fastest and most perfect through train service in the world. Equipped with new and elegant sleeping, drawing-room, and dining cars of the Wagner Palace Car Company."

Featured is an illustration of Grand Central Station.

Also noted in 1893:

"The New York Central & Hudson River Railroad and connections. Only four-track railroad in the world. This is America's great four-track Trunk Line between the east and west. It is the direct line to Niagara Falls, along the historic Hudson River and through the beautiful Mohawk Valley. It is the most comfortable route between the east and Chicago, the World's Fair City."

Cornelius Vanderbilt was responsible for the consolidation of the New York Central and the Hudson River Railroad, making the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad in 1869. That same year, construction began on the Grand Central Terminal on the corner of 42nd Street and 4th Avenue in Manhattan, New York.

This map, featuring the northeastern United States, was published in 1893 by George H. Daniels. It shows relief, drainage, cities and towns, and the railroad network.
