Historic Railroad Map of the Northeastern United States - 1898

Boston and Maine Railroad and Connections.

The Boston & Maine Railroad began in 1835 with a twenty-five mile standard-gauge line between Boston and Lowell, Massachusetts. By the late 1800's the railroad with its controlled branches reached west from Boston to Troy, New York and the Hudson River, and east to Vanceboro and Eastport, Maine. It also ran north to Sherbrooke and Lime Ridge, Quebec, and northwest to Lake Champlain in Vermont. During its hey-day the Boston & Maine Railroad was one of the most popular railroad networks in New England. The Boston & Maine became part of the Pan Am Railway system in 1983.

This relief map of New England and part of Canada was published in 1898 by Rand, McNally & Company. Cities, towns, and waterways are clearly indicated. Railroads are labeled. Inset maps include St. Andrews, New Brunswick, White Mountain Region, and Mount Desert Island and vicinity.
