This map of the United States was published in the year that the Allies signed an armistice with Germany near Compiègne, in northern France. The ceasefire signaled an end of World War I. At the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” of 1918, the stoppage began. In 1919 the war was officially declared over with the Treaty of Versailles.

This relief map was published in 1918 by the American Automobile Association. It shows cities, towns, railroad lines, steamship routes, and symbols and routes of named highways and trails.

Included are the Lincoln Highway, the National Old Trails Road, the Dixie Highway, the Ocean to Ocean Highway, the Yellowstone Trail, the Atlantic Highway, the Pacific Highway, Meridian Road, Arrowhead Trail, the Blue Grass Trail, King of Trails, the Santa Fe Trail, the Red Ball Trail, the National Park to Park Highway, Bankhead Highway, the Southern National Highway, Jefferson Highway, Jackson Highway, the Dixie Overland, and the Old Spanish Trail.
