Birds Eye View of Coronado Beach, San Diego Bay and City of San Diego in Distance / Sketch by E.S. Moore ; Crocker & Co, lith., S.F.

The town of Coronado was founded in 1885 when the land was purchased by E.L Babcock, along with Hampton L. Story and Jacob Gruendike, with the intention of creating a resort community. In 1886, the Coronado Beach Company was organized, and they immediately set out to create the community they envisioned. By 1888 they had built the Hotel del Coronado, a schoolhouse, and had formed Athletic, Boating, and Baseball clubs. This beautiful map provides a look back to the beginnings of the town.
