This panoramic print of Donora, Pennsylvania was drawn by Thaddeus Mortimer Fowler and published by T. M. Fowler & James B. Moyer in 1901. In 1899 the Union Improvement Company purchased 312 acres of land along the Monongahela River and began planning a large steel mill and the town of Donora. The Union Steel Company emerged to become one of the largest steel producing plants in the U. S. Donora’s early economy encompassed this industry. The borough was incorporated in February of 1901 and the original Methodist Episcopal Church was completed in September of that same year.

The map shows the Union Steel Company in the foreground with Donora’s streets, buildings and railroad lines. A statement in the bottom border reads:

"The first lot was sold in Donora on August, 30th, 1900. The town was incorporated February 11th, 1901."
