This panoramic print of Highland, Illinois was drawn by John Simon Hoerner and published by Heinicke-Fiegel Lith. Co. in 1894. Highland was well known in the 1800's as having wonderful singers.
After hosting the first grand singers’ gathering of the Western Saengerbund in 1855, Highland’s harmonic troupe went on to take the festival’s blue ribbon in St. Louis in 1856.
Highland also had several good bands and orchestras during the 1800s, specializing in German and Swiss tunes.
The illustration includes streets, buildings, stockyards and railroad line.
