
This panoramic print of Monmouth, Illinois was drawn by Albert Ruger and published by Merchant’s Lithographing Co. in 1869. Monmouth was established in the 1830's and soon after was served by the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad.
Monmouth College was founded in 1853 as Monmouth Academy by the Presbyterian church. A state charter three years later led to its being called Monmouth College.
Monmouth is pictured here just before its valuable coal and clay tile era.
