Description

View of Pittston, Luzerne County, P.A., 1892 / drawn & published by T. M. Fowler & James B. Moyer, A. E. Downs, lith.

This panoramic print of Pittston, Pennsylvania was drawn by Thaddeus Mortimer Fowler and published by T. M. Fowler & James B. Moyer in 1892. Pittston was established along the banks of the Susquehanna River in 1838. In the mid-1800's the discovery of anthracite coal throughout the region led Pittston to become a major colliery town with several coal breakers. The community established West Pittston on the opposite side of the river as a desirable suburb.
