Historic map showing the route of the Chicago & Canada Southern Railway and its connecting lines produced in 1872 by G.W. & C.B. Colton & Co.

The Chicago & Canada Southern Railway was a proposed extension of the Canada Southern Railway which was preparing to extend southwest from Grosse Ile, Michigan to Chicago. Unfortunately the Great Panic of 1873 ended any chance of the railroad’s completion and it only extended to Fayette, Ohio, although much of the further route had been cleared and leveled.

The route was later used as part of the Michigan Southern Railway system.

This map, showing the Northeastern and Midwestern US and Southeastern Canada, shows drainage, cities and towns, and county boundaries. It clearly labels the railroad network, with emphasis on the main route.
