The surrounding areas of the map include a vast array of information including: U.S. census data of each state and territory by counties for 1870, population size of major U.S. cities, a listing of state governors, railroad distribution, distances from New York to various cities, and the complete Declaration of Independence. A view of the "Main Building Centennial Exhibition, Philadelphia, 1876" spans across the top of the map, also depicted are detailed engravings of George Washington, The Capitol Building, DC, and Independence Hall, Philadelphia.
