Historic Map - Pennsboro, WV - 1899
Description
This reproduction panoramic map of Pennsboro, West Virginia was drawn by Thaddeus Mortimer Fowler and published by T. M. Fowler & James B. Moyer in 1899. Situated on several hills, Pennsboro was established in the early 1800's and attained their first railroad connection in the late 1850's.
The American Civil War slowed Pennsboros growth, but immediately after the war, M. P. Kimball and J. E. Tyler built their Kimball, Tyler & Company stave factory in town. The firm employed a great number of people and Pennsboro prospered because of the manufacturer for quite some time.
Charles R. Brown moved to town in 1865 and opened a store that would later be turned into the Brown Hotel. M. S. McCullough began a valuable marble works here in 1888. In 1899, Pennsboros popular Citizens Bank opened with Alex Prunty as president. The bank changed to Citizens National Bank in 1904.
