A print reproduction of Putnam, CT, drawn and published by O. H. Bailey in 1877, lithograph by C. H. Vogt. Founded in 1855, the town was named for American Revolutionary War General Israel Putnam. A classic New England mill town, Putnam was uniquely suited to supplying clothing and other items to the military during the American Civil War, with the presence of several mills and a railroad in town. Eight mills are referenced on this beautifully colored and detailed map of Putnam. The elegant, decorative title cartouche makes this a map a charming example of a 19th Century lithograph.
